From measuring the first picket gap to testing the latch on the last gate, our team handles every barrier. Serving Leander and neighboring Georgetown, Round Rock and Cedar Park, every pool fence is drawn to the figures we confirm with the city that inspects it, rather than whatever the neighbor's yard looks like.

How We Build a Pool Barrier

A pool barrier in Cedar Park or Bryson has one job: a small child who gets into the yard cannot get to the water. The CPSC pool barrier guidelines (Publication 362) say openings should be small enough to stop a 4-inch sphere, and that gates should open out from the pool and be self-closing and self-latching. Our pool work in The Hills and West Lake Hills is built to those points, and we confirm the exact height and figures with the city that inspects the pool before the drawing is signed.

The gap is the part we check hardest. We draw and measure every opening against that 4-inch sphere before the coat goes on, because a gap that passes the eye can fail the tape.

Grant's pool in the Bryson neighborhood already had a builder-grade wood fence around the yard, and that fence could not serve as the pool barrier. We set 88 linear ft of black powder-coated aluminum, 48 inches tall, as a separate inner barrier, with a self-closing, self-latching gate swinging away from the water. The job was an estimated $2,900 to $3,800 and took an estimated 1 to 2 days.

Self-Closing Gates and the Latch That Must Work Every Time

The gate is the weak point of every pool fence in Lakeway or Georgetown, because a gate is the only moving part. A self-closing hinge pulls the leaf shut, and a self-latching catch holds it, so the gate locks even when a child lets it go.

Sealed ball-bearing hinges carry the leaf without sag, and a greasable option is available on heavy pairs. A walk-through pool gate is estimated at $700 to $1,400 and typically takes 4 to 8 hours, and we test the close and the latch at handover.

What Goes Into a Pool Barrier

Tube schedule
11-gauge frame tube with 14-gauge infill as the starting point, moved up a size when a leaf runs past 14 feet
Coating order
Blast, zinc primer, then polyester powder cured in the oven, with touch-up kits left on site for later scratches
Footing plan
Belled concrete piers 36 inches or deeper, with depth and rebar decided by what the auger hits at each post
Infill gap
Our shop spec keeps openings under 4 inches on anything near a pool or a walkway, drawn and measured before the coat goes on
Hinge load
Sealed ball-bearing hinges rated well past the finished leaf weight, with a greasable option on heavy pairs
Grade method
Racked panels on gentle ground and stepped sections on steep lots, with rise-and-run hinges for a drive that climbs
Top profile
Flat top, spear, arched or anti-climb rail, chosen against the HOA book and the security goal
Bottom gap
Clearance set from the high point of the drive arc, usually 2 to 4 inches, so a crowned slab never drags the leaf

Pool Barrier Codes and Inspection Steps

Our steps for a pool barrier in Round Rock or Steiner Ranch run in a fixed order: ask the city what it requires, draw the barrier with the gate marked, build it, then book any inspection the city calls for once the latch works. Leander sits in both Williamson and Travis Counties, so the side of the county line a lot falls on can change who looks at the work. Check with the city on permits and the inspection for your lot, and ask the HOA before you pick a top rail.

We do not count on a wood fence from the home builder as the barrier. An inner aluminum barrier around the pool, as in Bryson, keeps the yard fence in place, and the city can confirm what it accepts.

Pool Fence Materials Compared

Aluminum is the usual pool choice at an estimated $31 to $45 per foot because it never rusts, and welded steel is the stronger option where the fence doubles as a security line. The table sets them side by side.

Welded steel pool fenceEst. $51 to $84Pools that also need a security lineTouch-up kit, repaint on scratches

Aluminum panel makers back their finish with a lifetime limited warranty, and the gate hardware is covered by our own work. For the fence around the rest of the lot, see wrought iron fencing, and for a front entry see steel gate installation.

Pool Fence Cost by the Foot

A pool barrier is priced by the linear foot, and a pool barrier fence is estimated at $31 to $45 per linear foot with the gate priced apart. Steel and forged barriers cost more, and the long runs and the corners add time.

A short run with square corners lands near the low end of the estimated $31 to $45 per linear foot, and a pool with a stone coping, a grade change or several gates lands near the top. These prices are estimates for Leander and are subject to change with the footing, the layout and the number of gates. Towns We Serve for Pool Fence Work

We build pool barriers across a 35-mile radius, with most of the work in Cedar Park, Georgetown and Round Rock. Leander is one of the newest-built cities in the metro, so many of our pools sit behind a recent home in a master-planned subdivision. Lakeway and Steiner Ranch pools often sit on rock, which changes the footing, and The Hills and West Lake Hills pools often need steps in the barrier to follow the slope. For any other city we serve, see our service area page.

Why Pool Owners Choose Us

We measure the gaps ourselves and set the gate ourselves across Sunset Valley and Volente, so the person who drew the barrier is the person who tests the latch. Welded steel panels with flat top rail can carry the barrier where the line runs along the street, and we still measure every gap before the inspector comes. After 1,127 projects over 14 years, we know where a barrier's gaps and latches go wrong and we design around it. Our 2-year workmanship warranty stands behind the welds, the post plumb, the hinge alignment and the gate sag.

The Pool Fence Questions Leander Callers Raise First

How tall does a pool fence need to be?

The barrier in our Bryson job stood 48 inches tall, and we confirm the exact height with the city that inspects your pool.

How much does a pool fence cost per foot in Leander?

A pool barrier fence is estimated at $31 to $45 per linear foot, with the self-closing gate priced apart.

How long does the install take?

A pool barrier typically takes an estimated 1 to 3 days on site, and a short run like Grant's 88 feet took 1 to 2.

Can my wood privacy fence be the pool barrier?

Often it cannot, as the builder wood fence in Bryson showed, and a separate inner aluminum barrier solves it.

How close do you set the pickets?

Close enough to stop a 4-inch sphere, the opening CPSC's pool barrier guideline describes, and the city that handles your pool can tell you whether it asks for anything tighter.

Which way should the gate swing?

Away from the water, with a self-closing hinge and a self-latching catch.

The order of work

Four Steps Between a Bare Opening and a Working Gate

  1. Walk the lot

We tape the opening, shoot the slope and check the HOA or town rules before anyone prices steel.

  2. Approve the drawing

You sign one scaled sheet listing frame size, coating and operator, and that sheet doubles as your review board packet.

  3. Weld and coat

Frames are welded in the shop and coated before delivery, so no grinding or spray paint happens on your drive.

  4. Hang, wire and prove it

Footings cure, then the leaf is hung and wired, and we run each safety device with you standing there.
